Chris Cillizza Tweets Image Of Trump In Sniper Crosshairs

Chris Cillizza tweeted out the image of President Trump speaking at a memorial for slain police officers Tuesday.

“Donald Trump, pointing to heavens to commemorate police officers killed in the line of duty,” Mr. Cillizza wrote on the initial tweet.

Trump has a propensity to move from feud to feud, which is also something to watch in terms of damage for CNN.

Trump’s relationship with CNN soured after the GOP primary.

The network itself came under criticism for showing too many Trump speeches unedited. Some of Trump’s rivals in the GOP primary argue the network helped elect him.

In the short term, media analysts are split over how long the feud will last and what it will mean for CNN’s daily programming.

That feud escalated this week with CNN’s decision to run a controversial report highlighting Trump’s alleged ties to Russia, which provoked an explosive public exchange between Trump and CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta.

Cillizza featured a GIF with the crosshairs over Trump, where he wrote, “Donald Trump, pointing to heavens to commemorate police officers killed in the line of duty.”

He quickly deleted the tweet, but social media users were able to get screenshots of it before he took it down.

Here’s the original tweet:

CNN issued the following statement to Fox News after the incident:

“Chris has already addressed this issue publicly. The image in question is a framing mark used in film and video production to frame a shot. Nothing more. A producer who created the motion graphic inadvertently left that frame in the GIF.  When it came to our attention, the tweet containing the GIF was deleted and replaced with explanation. There is nothing more to say.”

CNN analyst April Ryan recently joking about getting into a fist fight with White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace suggesting she wants to choke Sanders.
